Participants of the International Meeting of
Dominican Cooperator Brothers

Brother Timothy Wrinn, O.P.
"Called to quiet service, discerner and affirmer of the giftedness of others, seeker of the common good."

Brother Tim spent a good portion of his religious life working in the missions of Bolivia and struggling with the ever increasing political turmoil. It was there that he became involved in the ministry of healing prayer and the Charismatic movement. He is presently working with the Provincial Office staff in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Brother Michael McGovern, O.P.
"I entered the Order in 1960 and professed on July 1, 1961. I am presently the Executive Director of the Juan Macias Limited Health Care Center for the Central Province of St. Albert the Great."

Brother Michael has worked on the staff of Fenwick High School in Chicago where he was librarian and became involved in youth ministry. He has taught learning disabled young people and is currently in charge of the limited care facility for Dominicans of his Province at St. Thomas Aquinas Priory in River Forest, Illinois.

Brother Robert Villeneuve, O.P.
"It doesn't matter how large or colorful your piece of the Dominican puzzle is. The picture will not be completed without it."

Brother Robert Villeneauve worked a full government career before entering the Dominicans in the Canadian Province at the age of 41. He has served as librarian and porter at the Dominican House of Studies in Ottawa where he now lives. He also spent several years at the Order's headquarters in Rome assisting the Master of the Order and his staff.

Bro. Ron Galarneau, O.P.
"I entered the Order of Friars Preachers in 1965. My desire at the time was to spread the word of God; to serve him and humanity. This I will do 'till the day I die."

Bro. Ron entered the Dominicans in 1965 when he was 21 and had finished his schooling. He has been involved in parish ministry to the sick and taking Holy Communion to the shut-ins. He is presently in charge of boarders at the Order's college in Ottawa.

Brother Herman de Porres Johnson, O.P.
(hjohnson@xula.edu )

"I am happy to have participated in this first international meeting of Dominican Cooperator Brothers. It was a significant and hopeful event that will insure the continuance of the Dominican Cooperator Brother in the future of the Order."

Brother Herman entered the Order after completing his college studies. He says he always wanted to be a Brother. After receiving his PhD he returned to teaching Spanish at Xavier University in New Orleans. He is also Sub-Prior of the community of St. Anthony in New Orleans.

Brother Kevin Carroll, O.P.
"'How good, how delightful it is for all to live together like brothers.' This appeals to me because it gives lots of lee-way in this living together. After all is said and done... it is delightful. Just ask any brother."

Besides having done all the "traditional" works of the early Brothers, Kevin has served as a missionary in Bolivia for 12 years and in Honduras for 6 years. He is presently co-director of the Conference Center at the Priory in River Forest, Illinois.

Brs. Kevin O'Connell, O.P. &
Damian McCarthy, O.P.
(oconnell@providence.edu )
"'I wear the livery of a mighty army, whose deeds I alone could never do.' The above quote from Blessed Jordan of Saxony, second Master General of the Dominican Order, has always been a favorite for both of us. Almost 800 years later, it is as true for us today as it was at the very beginning of the Order."

Brother Kevin has been at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island for the last 20 years. He is currently Associate Director of Financial aid for the College and is moderator of the Friars Club, a social service organization of the College.

Brother Damian has held most of the traditional positions in his Eastern Province. He has served at Providence College and has been at St. Vincent Church in New York for the last 17 years.

Brother Frederick Narberes, O.P.
(WNarberes@AOL.COM )

"In almost 39 years as a Dominican Brother I have the pleasure to have been involved in a diversity of ministries. I have enjoyed each and every one of them."

Soon after his initial formation, Bro. Frederick was asked to be one of the Provincials secretaries and worked at that task for a number of years and for two Provincials. He then went into high school teaching - carrying a full day of classes while pursuing his own teaching credentials. He has a PhD in counseling and has held several academic positions including principal of both elementary and high school and superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Phoenix, Arizona. His current position is as administrator of Soledad Enrichment Action, a program which helps gang members finish their school diplomas.

Br. Daniel Thomas, O.P.
(bdtop@efn.org)
"In this world of "quantitativness" and "more is better" I am always happy to perhaps have once or twice been the cause of some one or maybe two person's turning onto a better path towards God. If in all the years of being a Dominican if I can look back and see that there were a couple of times when my presence was a positive influence in someone's life then my life will have been worthwhile."

Brother Daniel entered the Dominicans immediately upon finishing high school in 1959. Over the years he has been involved in a wide variety of works and ministries. Cooking, printing, carpentry, campus ministry and parish work, art music and drama are the main areas that have been the most exciting. He is currently the director of the Province Retreat Center in McKenzie Bridge, Oregon where he has been for seven years.
