CHAPTER OF PROVIDENCE

| Very Rev. Carlos Azpiroz Costa, OP, from Buenos Aires (Argentina), was
elected Saturday, July 14, 2001, by 127 delegates representing over 6, 000 brothers
in the Dominican Order worldwide. He succeeds to Fr. Timothy Radcliffe, OP, a native
of London, who was the first English Master of the Order. Fr. Carlos Azpiroz Costa is
only the second non-European Master General to serve in the Order's 787 years of
existence. The new Master is 44 years old and is a specialist in Canon Law. He will
serve the Order for a nine year term. |
