January 17, 2003
In a very general
way, here is an account of the day's significant events.
9:00 AM
COMMISSION REPORT: On the Following of Christ.
The commissions having studied, discerned, and considered the
nominations and
petitions submitted by the province at large, now report their findings to the entire
Chapter. Each commission makes their recommendations to entire Chapter. They
discuss each legislative item and vote to accept, modify, or reject the
recommendation. If accepted, the changes will enacted, by way of formal
legislation, in our Acta.
Notably, the reporting of the commissions is open
to "observers." Observers are Dominican friars of the Western Province who
may attend the session, but they have no voice and no vote. In order for an observer
to speak at any given time, the Chapter members must motion and vote for this permission
to be granted, and the motion must pass by two-thirds majority. Even those in
formation may be considered observers. As always, the Chapter reserves the right to
call for an executive session at any time, but the intent here is to include members of
the Province.
12:00 PM
Recess for lunch.
2:30 PM
