The first Mass is where
and when the newly ordained priest will first preside as celebrant of
the Mass. The ordination Mass is the first Mass at which he
concelebrates, and the bishop presides as celebrant.
Masses of Thanksgiving
A Mass of thanksgiving is where
the newly ordained priest celebrates Mass in thanksgiving to God and for
the contributions of the local community to the formation and support of
his vocation. Additionally, the local community gives thanks for
the vocation of the new priest, and for the vocations of men and women
already present in the Church.
