Br. Luan Pho, OP
I was born in 1975, in the city of Sai Gon (now Ho Chi Minh City), Viet Nam. I have
3 brothers and 2 sisters, all older than me. I was born at the end of the Viet Nam
war and grew up in a time of instability. Through the challenges of life, I started
to develop a more intimate relationship with God through prayer, the love for the Word,
and the sacraments (especially the Eucharist and Reconciliation). And as that
relationship grew deeper, I see that I have a call to religious life. And so after
at least 4 years of discernment (prayer, spiritual direction, visiting, etc) and after
graduating from Arizona State University, I applied and entered the Order in August, 2000.I
am a son of the Vietnamese Vicariate of St. Vincent-Liem, whose headquarter is in Calgary,
Canada. I first met the Dominicans when I was at Most Holy Trinity Parish in
Phoenix, Arizona. A couple of aspects that attract me the most to the Order of
Preachers were the way the friars live together, and the emphasis on study. I am
grateful for this life, in particular for the brothers that I live with, and for the
contemplative spirit that I am invited to put on. |
