I am a German Dominican, studying and living for one year in the United States. I was born
in Germany and I got in contact with the Dominican Order through my baptism by a Dominican
father. After High School (Gymnasium) I studied business administration and economics at
the universities of Berlin and Cologne. After passing my diploma I served as an assistant
to the German parliament in Bonn. Later on I worked at the headquarters of the
Christian Democratic Party. Finally, I joined the administration of the state of Berlin
and there I was busy with the relations of Berlin to the federal government and
parliament. During my studies and job, I served in the Masses of a Dominican church.
So I stayed in contact with the Order. When parliament and the government moved from Bonn
to Berlin I decided that my work in politics had been fulfilled. And politics was more
than "only a job," since I was active also in student politics. As a hobby I
will watch what is going on in society. Therefore, social ethics is my center of study.
After entering the Order I am now studying philosophy and theology at Bonn University. The
huge international dimension of the order (also a global player like the Catholic Church)
allows me to study for one year in Oakland/Berkeley. |
