Br. Anthony Ambrose Kroutch, OP
Br. Anthony Kroutch was born on December 13, 1896 in Rio Vista, California where he and
his sister, Mae, attended the local schools. It was during this time that he came into
contact with the Dominicans who ministered to the Sacramento-San Joaquin delta
communities. Because of family obligations Br.
Anthonys vocation to the religious life was delayed until 1929 when he received the
Dominican habit at St. Dominics in Benicia from Fr. Lamb, who was then prior.
From
the start, Br. Anthony dedicated his life to prayer, especially the prayer of the rosary. Assigned over the years to various houses in the
Bay Area, he made a great impact on people simply by the example of his own prayerful,
detached life. The last year of his life was
spent caring for his sister, who died a few months before he did, and enduring illness
himself most of the time. Br. Anthony died
peacefully in San Francisco on July 22, 1980 while assigned to St. Dominics in the
City.
