Fr. Edward Gerard McMullan, OP
Edward McMullan was born and raised in San Francisco, and before entering
the Order he studied at St. Patricks Seminary. His antecedent study of
theology expedited his ordination, and by 1917, only four years after receiving the habit,
he was already serving as assistant pastor at St. Vincents Church in Vallejo.
Not much is known about the quality of his experiences or the tendency of his
character and
vocation, but it is clear from the record of his assignments that he functioned for
several decades as a trustworthy pastor in such parishes as Eagle Rock, Pittsburg, and
Portland. In 1932, he served as Master of Conversi in Benicia.
Already when
in his late fifties, however, Fr. Edward fell prey to cancer, but surviving letters show
that he bore this cross as patiently as possible until his death in 1950. While we
do not know much about the man himself, it is evident that he had the admiration and
respect of his peers and superiors. |
