Br. Mark James Rodden, OP
Br. Mark was born of Michael Rodden and Mary Murphy in Cascade, Wisconsin. He went
to public school in a rural district. We do not know what brought him to California
for a religious vocation, but he was received in Benicia as a tertiary on September 23,
1894; he was thirty-three. Four years later he took simple vows for three years,
becoming a cooperator brother, and then took solemn vows in due course. He worked as
a gardener at St. Dominic's in Benicia, California, which was a community of
formation. By the time he had died he had spent fifty years as a religious.
