Fr. Felix Cassidy, O.P.

Francis Cassidy was born to Mildred and Edward Cassidy on June 3, 1927. Baptized at St. Dominic's Church and raised in Pacific Heights, he was a proud son of the city of San Francisco.

He attended St. Ignatius Preparatory High School, then joined the Merchant Marines, serving in World War II from 1945-1946. After his military service, and a few years at University of San Francisco, Francis joined the Order of Preachers, where he was clothed with the Dominican habit on August 14, 1948 and received the name "Felix." Six years later, on June 11, he was ordained to the priesthood at St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco.

Fr. Felix had many assignments throughout the province, serving at: Holy Rosary Church in Antioch, St. Vincent’s Church in Vallejo, Holy Rosary Church in Portland and St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral in Reno. He was also superior of our community in Kentfield, and ministered at our missions in Chiapas in Mexico. But most of his life was spent at St. Dominic’s Church and Priory in San Francisco, where he blessed and counseled the many pilgrims visiting the Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus.

He was a confessor to countless souls, lifting the burdens of those who sought him out to hear his words of encouragement. With his childlike heart, he remained a model of Christian virtue until his death on November 13, 2015.
